Everyone is sick. You wanna run down of our ailments? Severe "wet" cough, stuffy nose, itchy eyes, sore throat (ah strep I know you well), pink eye, ear infections, bronchitis, head aches, constipation, diarrhea and to top it all off crankiness due to sleep deprivation. We rock the sickness in this house and whats even better is we keep giving each other these illnesses. While we had a total of 5 separate viruses running ramped in this house we can't all seem to get them at the same time. It's like musical chairs, you get rid of one just to catch another it's exhausting in itself.
As a mother I feel we get sick more often and recover more slowly because we can't "rest" as one should. Even with an amazing partner to share the responsibility with you still find yourself up and going when you know you should really be laying in bed. Your child's needs don't get put on hold so you can heal, in fact sometimes (lets be honest) it feels as though they intensify when you're ill, haha! So you're hacking up your lungs, you can't swallow because your throat hurts and is as big as your head, you can't breath because your nose is so stuffed up you sound like a depressed robot and despite the fact that you're drinking so much water you feel as though you spend every free second peeing your lips are still so cracked it hurts to talk/eat/drink, yet you STILL have to get the kids up, feed 'em, get 'em dressed, kiss their boo boo's, entertain them, keep up with the dishes (otherwise your family will be left with nothing clean to eat on) and do at least SOME laundry s the kids have some clean skivies to put on :0) Daddy just can't cut it, he'll never be mommy and babies always want and need their mommies espeically when they know they can't have them. "mommy doesn't feel good" "but she knows how to cut my sandwhich!"
Despite ALL of that hoopla you'd MUCH rather be the sick one because you can deal, you can whimper and moan silently to yourself and buck it up. There is NOTHING more heart breaking then a sick baby. They are misreable and sad and hurting and that to me is the worst feeling in the world, far worse than any sore throat. You want so badly to take away that hurt, to sooth and chase away their discomfort. For their comfort you'll put the house on hold to just hold them and rub their heads, their backs or legs and sing them songs and read them books and cradle their poor sick bodies in your arms, because that's our super power, we are ultimate healers :0) You're mommy and there is no greater feeling than being loved and protected and doted on by mommy when your sick right? Noting takes away the pain better.
Motherhood is the paramount of love, but also of pain, I don't think there is anything greater than the love of a mother for her child. Yet I can't think of pain greater than when your child is hurting, so it's give and take, it's to experience the two extremes of life that I think only motherhood can give you, it's the most beautiful thing in life.
